The CD163 molecule is a type I membrane protein, also known as M130 antigen, ber-mac3, ki-m8, or SM4.CD163 protein expression was limited to monocytes/macrophage lines.CD163 protein is reported to be expressed in all circulating blood monocytes and macrophages, dactylodes and langerhans cells in most tissues (except lymphocele and germinal centers). In addition, the inflammatory lesions of the multinucleated cells did not express CD163 protein.CD163 protein was upregulated by glucocorticoid, and downregulated by cyclosporine A and phorbol ester, an immunosuppressant, while lipopolysaccharides were inflammatory mediators and had no effect on expression. The specific release mechanism of human monocytes soluble CD163 antigen may play an important role in regulating inflammation.
