CD79 a is encoded by the mb-1 gene, formerly known as Ig α. The antibody recognizes an extracellular site expressed on the CD79 molecule and detects all b-cell tumors in routine biopsy material. In addition to being expressed in B cells, CD79a was also found to be co-expressed with CD3 in 10% of T lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma cases. CD79a antibody may also be useful in differential diagnosis of Hodgkin's disease.
Tonsil tissue stained with CD79a
This antibody is intended for use in Immunohistochemical applications on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues (FFPE). The clinical interpretation of any staining or its absence should be complemented by morphological studies using proper controls and should be evaluated within the context of the patient’s clinical history and other diagnostic tests by a qualified pathologist.
