Thyroid Transcription Factor-1 (TTF-1) is a member of the homodomain transcription factor family, which plays a role in regulating gene expression in thyroid, lung and brain tissues. It is reported that TTF-1 is expressed in more than 90% of lung small cell carcinomas and 75% of lung non-small cell carcinomas, but not expressed in typical lung carcinoid tumors. TTF-1 is also expressed in follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma (FV-PTC) and goiter (a type of non-malignant and non-toxic goiter), but not expressed in anaplastic thyroid cancer.
