Mucin-4 Glycoprotein

All mucosa surfaces are protected by mucoprotein cross-membrane proteins almost. Mucin-4 Glycoprotein plays an important role in protection and lubrication. It has been expressed in the thymus, thyroid, lung, trachea, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, prostate, ovaries, uterus, placenta, breast and salivary glands as well as there is the expression in tumors produced by certain epithelial cells, such as lung cancer, squamous cell carcinoma of the upper digestive tract, breast cancer, bile duct, colon, cervical cancer as well as minimal or not expressed in normal pancreas or chronic pancreatitis, but highly expressed in pancreatic tumors and pancreatic cancer cell lines.
