Inhibin-α

Inhibin and activators are members of the family of the conversion growth factor β (TGF beta) of cytokines. Inhibin are hetero-dimer consisting of the general α -subunit linked withβ A subuni (α -βA, forming inhibitor A) orβ-B subunit (α -βB, forming inhibitor B).The β sub-unit which shared by activators and inhibitors is the β sub-unit ‘s homologous dimer or hetero- dimer. Thus to create activin A(βA-βA), activatorA B(βA-βB) or activator B (βB-βB).The expression of α -subunit and inhibitors is more limited than β-subunit and activin. Inhibitors and activin play a role in regulating the secretion of pituitary follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). Inhibitors and activin act opposite each other, inhibitors inhibit FSH secretion and activin stimulates FSH secretion. Inhibitors are secreted by female follicle granules and male testicular support (Sertoli) cells.Iinhibitors have a local regulatory effect in various tissues, including the brain, adrenal glands, bone marrow, fetus and placenta expect to ovaries.
