The human von Willebrand factor (also known as the factor 8 associated antigen) is a polymeric cytoplasmic glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 270kD. It mediates the adhesion of platelets and damaged blood vessel walls, and is the carrier and stabilizer of the 8 coagulation factor. It has been reported to be expressed in platelets, megakaryocytes, and a variety of tumors, including hemangioma, angiosarcoma, and kaposi's sarcoma.
