Bax

Bax gene is the most important apoptotic gene in human body, which belongs to the bc1-2 gene family. The encoded Bax protein can form an heterodimer with bc1-2 to inhibit bcl-2. The ratio between Bax/ bcl-2 proteins was found to be a key factor in determining the degree of inhibition of apoptosis, so Bax was considered to be one of the most important pro-apoptotic genes.Bax is more widely expressed and can be found in liver cells, renal tubular epithelial cells, respiratory epithelial cells and bronchial smooth muscle and vascular smooth muscle cells.
