Cytokeratin 8 is known as tissue polypeptide antigen (TPA). Like Cytokeratin 18, Cytokeratin 8 is one of the earliest expressed keratin in embryos and persists in adult tissues. CK8 and CK18 are major components of all monolayer epithelium, but are not expressed in lamellar squamous epithelium. It has been reported that CK8 is expressed in the tissues of individuals with adenocarcinoma and also found in the serum of adenocarcinoma patients.
