Nerve Growth Factor Receptor (NGFR)

In general, the signaling of the processes of cell survival, differentiation, growth inhibition, and apoptosis is transmitted through two cell surface receptors: Trks and NGF receptors (p75NTR, NGFR). In the absence of a strong Trk signal, when the p75NTR is activated, neurons can be induced to die. On the contrary, When Trk exists, it enhances the response to neurotrophic factors. Studies have shown that the absence of p75NTR expression in developing spinal cells is the primary factor in the occurrence of neuroblastoma. But, p75NTR is an indirect factor in neuronal mortality in Alzheimer's disease, because of the interaction between β- amyloid protein and p75NTR partially.Beside, it also provides new targets for interventional therapy.
