Prolactin (PRL) is a polypeptide hormone secreted by lactotroph cells in the anterior pituitary gland. Its primary function is to stimulate milk production. Prolactin IHC is used for the functional classification of pituitary adenomas, specifically for identifying prolactin-secreting pituitary adenomas (prolactinomas).
