Glutamine Synthetase (C6E12), MMab

Glutamine synthetase (GS) catalyzes the formation of glutamine from glutamate and ammonia in the mammalian liver. In normal liver tissue, GS expression is restricted to centrilobular hepatocytes (those surrounding the central vein) and is absent in periportal hepatocytes. Glutamine synthetase has been established as a marker for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It is expressed in the majority of HCC cases, including 70% of early-stage HCC and 59% of poorly differentiated HCC.
