Arginase-1 (ARG-1) is a key urea cycle enzyme primarily expressed in the liver, where it catalyzes theconversion of L-arginine to L-ornithine and urea. ARG-1 is a highly specific and sensitive marker for both benign and malignant hepatocytes. It is currently considered one of the most reliable markers for the differential diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) from metastatic tumors to the liver. ARG-1 has demonstrated superior sensitivity compared to Hep Par 1 and Glypican 3 in the identification of HCC, particularly in poorly differentiated cases.
