Transgelin

Transgelin is an actin binding protein with a relative molecular mass of 22-25 kDa, a member of the calmodulin family and one of the marker genes of differentiated vascular smooth muscle cells. Transforming growth factor β can induce gene expression of transgelin. Transgelin promotes the polymerization of spherical actin to form fibrous actin by combining with actin. Although transgelin is not necessary for the regulation of basic functions of vascular and visceral smooth muscle, it is closely related to the calcium-independent regulation of smooth muscle contraction. Transgelin participates in tissue remodeling by inhibiting matrix metalloproteinase-9, which may be a new clue to study lung tissue fibrosis and lung injury. In addition, transgelin may inhibit the migration and infiltration of tumor cells.
