Insulin is a hormone secreted by the pancreatic Langorhans islet β cells. It can promote glycogen storage, triglyceride formation and the synthesis of protein and nucleic acid. Immunocytochemistry studies have shown that insulin is stored in the cytoplasm of some islet tumor cells. However, in some instances insulin-positive particles are scarce and a blank space is formed along the cell membrane.
