Inhibin-α

Inhibin and activators are members of the family of the conversion growth factor β (TGF beta) of cytokines. Inhibin are hetero-dimer consisting of the general α -subunit linked withβ A subuni (α -βA, forming inhibitor A) orβ-B subunit (α -βB, forming inhibitor B).The β sub-unit which shared by activators and inhibitors is the β sub-unit ‘s homologous dimer or hetero- dimer. Thus to create activin A（βA-βA）, activatorA B（βA-βB） or activator B （βB-βB）.The expression of α -subunit and inhibitors is more limited than β-subunit and activin. Inhibitors and activin play a role in regulating the secretion of pituitary follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). Inhibitors and activin act opposite each other, inhibitors inhibit FSH secretion and activin stimulates FSH secretion.
