Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is an opportunistic pathogen that infects individuals with immature immune systems, such as the lungs, liver, internal organs, or other organs of fetuses and newborns.CMV infection also occurs in immunosuppressed individuals such as organ transplant recipients, patients undergoing chemotherapy, and hiv-infected individuals.CMV acute infection has a typical course of infection in immunosuppressed individuals, and pp65 antigenemia has been reported to characterize this stage and is associated with virus replication. The presence of the virus was observed over a period of several weeks and prior to the onset of clinical symptoms.
