Cytokeratin 7 CK7

Cytokeratin is an intermediate filaggrin found in epithelial cells and expressed in a tissue-specific manner in normal organs and tumours of their origin. CK7 belongs to the neutral basic b-type subfamily of cytokeratin, and its distribution is restricted to glandular epithelium and transitional epithelium. CK7 has been reported to be highly expressed in cultured bronchial and mesothelial cells, but only at a low level in cultured epidermal cells. The predicted amino acid sequences of this keratin showed significant differences between this keratin and the type keratin expressed in epidermal cells.CK7 has been reported in adenocarcinomas of the lung, breast, endometrium, ovary, and thyroid, as well as bladder and chromophobe cell type renal cell carcinoma. The expression of CK7 and CK20 showed characteristic differences in primary and metastatic lung adenocarcinoma and colorectal cancer.
